Edge Technologies Introduces Three New Product Integration Modules for Industry Leading Management Offerings
enPortal™ Plug-and-Play Software Enables Rapid Integration for IBM Netcool Proviso, Sun Secure Global Desktop and Mercury Topaz/BAC
press release, 04/04/06

Fairfax, VA—Edge Technologies Inc., the leading provider of secure management integration software, announced today three new product integration modules (PIMs) for managed service provider, enterprise and OEM customers. Available immediately, the Sun Secure Global Desktop, IBM (formerly Micromuse) Netcool Proviso and Mercury Topaz/Business Availability Center integration modules enable users to manage applications side-by-side and create secure, user-specific console views within enPortal, the company’s leading secure integration portal.

PIMs enable enPortal to recognize user names, security specifics, and a wide variety of other variables already established within the third-party application—so the administrator can act on those variables quickly and efficiently. Edge’s PIMs also enable cross-application communication so users can create integrations between different applications through the portal that would not ordinarily integrate with one another.

“The application views available through the enPortal PIMs enable facile application integration across alarm and event management, trouble-ticketing and reporting systems,” said Dennis Drogseth, vice president of Enterprise Management Associates, a research and analyst firm specializing in the issues of the management of technology. “As a result users can accelerate troubleshooting and simplify workflow procedures by linking context sensitive information with the click of a mouse.”

With the introduction of Edge’s latest PIMs, customers receive the following benefits and features:
  • Sun Secure Global Desktop (SSGD) (formerly Tarantella): this PIM quickly and cost effectively web-enables legacy applications. SSGD provides secure access to server-based applications from a wide variety of client platforms and devices. Edge enPortal conducts Single Sign-on and enables users to manage legacy and modern “web-ready” applications side-by-side.

  • Micromuse Netcool Proviso: This PIM allows users to view and print daily, weekly and monthly network performance reports in enPortal. In addition to reporting, Netcool Proviso PIM offers single sign-on and integration to the rest of the Netcool suite as well as to major 3rd party OSS software. Through enPortal, Proviso will help IT organizations manage today's mission-critical, converged IP services through a secure, integrated console.

  • Mercury Topaz (Business Availability Center): This PIM enables Administrators to create secure, partitioned views of the Mercury Topaz application for service level management reporting, including views of Mercury’s dashboard view or SLM reports, which can be easily integrated with complementary 3rd party applications for trouble ticketing, alarm monitoring or troubleshooting.
“In most commercial portal implementations, considerable custom coding is required to integrate products within the portal interface,” said Larry Chang, president and CEO of Edge Technologies. “The beauty of the enPortal PIMs is that they require no coding. So not only does the PIM install efficiently, taking days rather than months, it also is easy to support and use. In fact, even the novice user will find it easier to manage traditional troubleshooting and event management systems through Edge’s secure enPortal.”

The PIM plug-and-play software also offers customers the following capabilities:
  • Single Sign-on: Each PIM plugs into enPortal’s single-login feature. This allows users to login once to multiple applications with no custom software development or modifications required to backend applications.

  • Easy Distribution and Management: The PIMs provide pre-built channels or portlets so the data from the underlying application can be easily accessed through the enPortal dashboard. This allows administrators to easily customize the view by user, by role and by security/permission level.

  • Ongoing Maintenance and Support: When a vendor releases a new version of software, Edge will update the PIM and provide it to users who are current on software maintenance.
Edge now offers thirteen PIMs for individual third-party products including solutions for CA (formerly Concord) eHealth, HP OpenView, InfoVista, IBM (formerly Micromuse) Netcool, and BMC Remedy.
