From the President's Desk
Spring... the season of hope and renewal. And
after the economic turmoil of the past year, spring couldn’t have come
a moment too soon. Recently we’ve witnessed some positive signs in the
economy, Washington has weighed-in with a stimulus package, and many
experts see signs of recovery on the horizon. At Edge Technologies,
we’re working to add to the stimulus with the Edge Economic Catalyst.
From our systems integration services to our staffing
solutions to COTS and custom software solutions, the entire Edge team
is re-energized to help our government and commercial customers
accelerate productivity and expedite returns on their technology
investments. The Edge team boasts some the industry’s leading experts
in their respective fields. And we deliver that expertise to our
clients by beginning with the end in mind. First, we listen to our
customers to determine their unique challenges, needs, assets,
opportunities, goals and objectives. Then, we deploy our experience,
know-how and advanced technologies to expedite results.
This is the time of year for fresh starts and fresh
thinking. Here at Edge, that means delivering innovative tools and
techniques that help change the way information is viewed, shared and
engaged. I hope the brief items below will perhaps plant a seed of
inspiration for new ways to help achieve your objectives. And as
always, I look forward to your comments and
suggestions.

Training: The Great Force Multiplier
Deploying technology to increase productivity is crucial to gaining an
edge in an extremely competitive marketplace. However, getting new
tools out to your customers, sales force or employees is only half of
the equation. Providing them with the insight and training needed to
get the most out of your new applications – or to show them new ways to
get more out of an existing application – is the key to maximizing ROI.
Edge enCapture, Cloning without the Controversy
In every organization, there are those individuals with the unique
ability to make an application really sing. Step-by-by “hands-on”
instruction by your experts is the fastest way to get your users
up-to-speed. But these days, few companies have the luxury of sending
their top performers out in the field to train users. That’s why Edge
Technologies developed enCapture. enCapture is powerful video capturing
software that records the actions taken on your computer screen and
easily creates wmv, mpeg or avi files from your desktop. enCapture is
great for creating software training, demos, tutorials, and additional
material to enhance presentations. It also supports text annotations,
sound, and screen notes.
A Powerful Tool, A Remarkable $99 Price
At less than $100 for a single user license, enCapture can record all
screen activities, such as movement of the mouse, processes of
applications, and the inputs from the keyboard. Save your computer
screen actions and share them across your intranet with others in your
organization. Create demonstrations for customers and save them in a
movie format compatible with almost every system. There is no need to
download Flash, or other special programs, to run enCapture.
In fact, right now Edge clients are using enCapture to:
- Increase training resources available locally and
across distances
- Create on-the-fly updates to processes, techniques,
and procedures
- Create robust training tools
- Assist with complex problems - with minimum effort
- Create visual Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Create problem-solving procedures visually
enCapture offers an innovative and inexpensive way to make your users,
customers and partners more productive. enCapture lets you capture and
transfer the knowledge of your best performers, without taking them out
of action. And it’s an excellent force multiplier for challenging
times. Click

Time
to Organize a More Powerful Portal
In simpler times it was the garage: a central repository for a range of
useful and valuable tools, toys, fittings, fixtures, gadgets and
gizmos. The key to fulfilling the promise of these tools is getting
them in the right hands at the right time. Unfortunately, their
potential is too often lost, obscured behind layers of unrelated and
unsorted “stuff.”
In the digital domain, it is the portal that has become
the convenient catchall. In the portal many have assembled an amazing
collection of information, applications, tidbits and widgets. Yet, too
often the tools most useful for a specific individual are lost in the
clutter. The key to ensuring that your portal, and the tools it houses,
fulfills its potential is in presenting the right information to the
right users at right time in the right context. This is the task for
which Edge Technologies’ enGage was custom-built. enGage integrates
your existing real-time network and service management applications
into any portal container or J2EE server.
And most importantly, enGage can do the job in a
fraction of the time previously required. The biggest stumbling blocks
to application/portal integration are time and risk. enGage minimizes
both. With enGage you can simply and cost-effectively integrate
applications like Remedy and IBM Tivoli Netcool (and many more) into
today’s leading portal platforms, such as Appian, Liferay, Tivoli
Netcool Portal 2.0, Websphere, and WebLogic.
Clarity and Vision
Chances are, the right stuff is right in front of your users. It simply
needs to be sifted, sorted, organized and presented in a user-friendly
way. With enGage you make information more meaningful, more available,
and more secure – all in far less time than traditional API-level
integrations. And by simplifying integration and greatly reducing the
time needed to deploy complex applications, enGage lowers costs,
mitigates risk, eliminates trial and error and frees staff to
concentrate on their core missions. enGage improves service quality to
end users, customers and business partners.
This is the ideal time to do a little spring-cleaning
and provide your users with clarity that boosts productivity and
reveals the true value of your tools, toys, widgets and gadgets. To find out how
enGage can help get the job done fast, click here.

Fast

If
it isn’t live and interactive, it’s yesterday’s news
Despite today’s
light-speed transmission speeds, the information seen on most websites,
portals and intranets remains stale and stagnant. And in the non-stop
Web 2.0 world, data that’s static is yesterday’s news. That’s why the
most competitive organizations are gaining significant advantages by
offering and/or harnessing the power of live, interactive widgets.
Whether you’re a provider or a user, the ability to present, view,
understand and interact with up-to-the-second data is a powerful
competitive weapon.
So why don’t we see these live, interactive tools
everywhere? The reason is simple: developing high-end, interactive
interfaces linked to live data is often perceived as too time-consuming
and resource-intensive for all but the biggest, most technologically
advanced organizations. However, now there’s a secret weapon: Edge
Technologies’ AppBoard Visualization Widgets Toolkit.
If you’re ready to bring live, interactive dashboard
visualizations to your users, Edge’s AppBoard solution can get you
there, faster and cheaper than you’d imagine. For more than 15 years,
Edge has pioneered the technologies that help sort, sift and make sense
of the most complex information. Now, the convergence of light-speed
communications, Web 2.0 technologies, and Edge’s visualization
expertise has created an environment that makes inexpensive live,
interactive visualizations a reality.
Regardless of the data source or operating system, this
advanced toolkit assembles critical pieces of information from various
sources to a single screen, without the need for a major migration or
integration project. Edge creates dynamic, top-level dashboards based
on live data, without requiring heavy programming to create a custom
GUI. Real-time visualizations are put together quickly and easily to
provide simple dashboard summaries of key business parameters and
critical information for customers, partners, employees or executive
management.
In today’s dynamic economic environment, providing users
with live information, and the ability to interact with it, is
essential to making the best decisions and taking the right steps as
quickly as possible. Despite the playful name, widgets are anything but
gimmicks or gizmos. These are the powerful tools of a new generation of
agile, informed organizations. From developing real-time what-if
scenarios or faster-to-value offerings, to maximizing gains and
minimizing losses, the browser-agnostic Edge Appboard makes live and
interactive, reasonable and achievable. For more on Edge
Technologies’ AppBoard Visualization Widgets Toolkit, click here.
